Basement LAN

Graphic Design

Branding

Between 2013 to 2022 I was responsible for and created all things visual for the association Basement LAN.

Basement LAN was a non-profit gaming association in Lund that organized LAN festivals, the largest being Spektrum with up to 500 participants. From 2013, I served as the association’s sole graphic designer and Design Lead. In preparation for 2018, I carried out a major rebrand to modernize the visual identity and create a cohesive design that better reflected the organization’s growth and target audience.

I joined the internal team INFO/PR at Basement LAN and held the responsibility to develop a design language that helped the board members be consistent in the way they made content.

The Brand

Throughout the years, I gradually evolved the association’s graphic materials. Refining the logo and creating variations for different application. To support consistency, I also made a visual identity guideline that provided clear direction for how the materials should be used.

Basement LAN’s biggest event. With about 500 participants. For the event I created video material to attract potential participants. I was responsible for the entire process – from developing the graphics to animation, editing and sound design.

Public Transit Advertisement

For one edition of the LAN event in 2014 we had this crazy idea to reach a wider audiance by advertising on the bus transit posters.

The Typeface

Throughout the project, I gradually evolved the association’s graphic materials. I refined the logo and created variations for different applications. To support consistency, I also designed a visual identity guideline that provided clear direction for how the materials should be used.

I developed a display typeface, “Alphabeta”, based on the event logo, to make it easier for other teams in the association to produce consistent material.

Reflection

A key takeaway from my time at Basement LAN was the critical importance of setting clear boundaries and effectively scoping deliverables. I learned how to accurately estimate workload to ensure successful delivery within tight, un-planned deadlines.
